Vitra

Vitra is a Swiss family-owned company founded in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum. From its inception, Vitra has distinguished itself through collaborations with renowned designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, and Verner Panton, creating iconic pieces that have left a lasting impact on design history.

In 1981, a devastating fire destroyed much of Vitra’s production facilities in Weil am Rhein, Germany. This event led to an ambitious reconstruction effort, engaging world-class architects to rebuild and expand the site, ultimately transforming it into an open-air museum of contemporary architecture.

The Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to design and architecture. Esteemed architects like Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Tadao Ando have contributed to the creation of landmark buildings on the site, including the Vitra Design Museum, inaugurated in 1989. This institution houses an extensive collection of design pieces and regularly hosts internationally acclaimed exhibitions.
