Cassina
Founded in 1927 in Meda, Italy, by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the Cassina brand revolutionized the world of furniture design with a groundbreaking approach, combining traditional craftsmanship with industrialization. Initially a company specializing in handcrafted furniture, by the 1950s, Cassina became a pioneer in collaborating with international designers, integrating technology into mass production while maintaining an exceptional level of craftsmanship.
The brand entered a new era in 1954, contributing to the post-war reconstruction of Italy through innovative collaborations with renowned architects and designers like Gio Ponti, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, and Franco Albini. Cassina helped democratize modern design while creating timeless furniture pieces that have become iconic in contemporary furniture design. Notably, Cassina was the first to produce the famous LC Collection by Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, and Perriand, redefining furniture standards with pieces like the LC2 armchair and the LC4 chaise longue.
In the 1960s, Cassina launched the iMaestri project, a visionary initiative dedicated to reissuing masterpieces of modern design. This project made it possible to bring back into production works by great masters like Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Gerrit Rietveld, ensuring their creative legacy.
Cassina has also distinguished itself by blending technological innovation with respect for traditional materials, particularly through collaborations with contemporary designers such as Gaetano Pesce, Mario Bellini, Philippe Starck, and Patricia Urquiola, who have reinterpreted design codes while respecting the brand's DNA.
The acquisition of Cassina by the Poltrona Frau Group in 2005, followed by its integration into the Haworth group, allowed the brand to strengthen its international presence while maintaining its unique approach and Italian identity. Today, Cassina remains synonymous with artisanal quality, innovation, and timeless design, producing pieces that defy trends while making a lasting mark on design history.
Cassina does more than create furniture; it contributes to the evolution of global design by reimagining living spaces as a symphony of shapes, textures, and ideas. With every new creation, Cassina writes another chapter in design history, ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire future generations.
